Two Ties at the Top!

Lake Erie Doesn’t Give Up Her Gold Easily

FLW Michigan League Boaters, Dave Hall, and David Leach, along with their Co Anglers, Michael Stankievich, and Carter Tillage respectively, tied for first place today during the first event of the 2008 season on Lake Erie.

David Leach brought in a 5 fish limit, while Dave Hall brought in only 3 fish for matching weights of 16.25 pounds!

Nate Seiferlein and David Kolb, with Co Anglers, Ryan Lescoe and Rob North, both weighed in a 5 fish limit with an exact weight of 16.13 pounds, and tied for the second place position.

71 boats headed out this morning in less than favorable conditions, only 41 of those Boaters, along with their Co Anglers, would cross the stage with fish today. And, of those 41 teams only 20 of them would cash a check.

The majority of fish caught today were caught by jigging hair jigs tipped with minnows or plastic baits at Toussaint, Crib, Cone, and Niagra reefs.

Nate Seiferlein, of Marine City Michigan, took his Co Angler for a long 40+ mile ride up to the Detroit River, where they were able to put 5 fish in the boat in only 45 minutes!

Nate then made the decision to head back to try and troll up a kicker fish or two, before heading in for the day.

Unfortunately, the trolling bite is still a few days away from being great, and Nate and his partner wouldn’t find any big girls willing to bite their offerings.

Trollers who had some success today were Local Pro Greg Yarbrough and his partner, Walther Witham who finished in 12th place with 2 fish weighing in at 13.69 pounds, and local Pro, Marc Hudson, and his partner, Bobby Watkins, who also weighed in a 2 fish limit, for a weight of 11 pounds.

While the fish were more plentiful for the jig fishermen, the trollers caught the bigger fish today.

With warmer temperatures headed in early next week, FLW Walleye Tour anglers can look forward to more stable weather, and an even better bite!
