Ron SeelhoffThis is going to be the tournament of ounces. There is only one pound thirteen ounces between 1st and 10th place. Between 1st and 63rd place there is only a three pound difference. The baskets brought to the scales today looked like the result of a cookie cutter.

Ron Seelhoff leads the pack of pro anglers with 10 pounds 7 ounces. The following nine pros in order are; Troy Wallwood,Brad Richards, Jimmy Bell, John Cambell, Mark Courts, John Swanstrom, Robert Crow, Bill Shimota and Scott Steil.

The top co-angler is Steven Mark Bucholz, followed by Victor Wood, Francis Beck, Jim Feller, Terry Etzkorn, Richard Myers, Keith Strauss, Jack Ellenbecker, Allen Cleveland, and Carl Carlson.

Many anglers reported catching as  many as 60 walleyes today. They also said they caught up to 30 smallmouht bass as large as 5 pounds. They all commented on what an excellent fishery Lake Sharpe is.

Many pros put on over 120 miles on the water today. Several ran out of gas on the way in. One angler made a comment that his weight of fish today equaled 1 ounce of walleye per one gallon of gas.

A majority of the pro anglers caught better fish during practice because they had some wind. Today was calm and clear. They commented they threw back fish this morning that they thought they could up grade, but the bite didn’t come on with out the help of the wind. The anglers had to keep fish smaller than they threw back earlier in the day to weigh their limit of 5.

One pro angler, looking at the weights on the board, said it looked like everyone caught one walleye on Lake Erie.

The remainder of the contest is going to be decided by the pro who makes the right decision on which fish to keep. It is going to be a real western shootout the following 2 days to see who makes it to Wal- Mart on Saturday.
